- Beginning of the year: Pharaoh Ptolemy VI. of Egypt is declared of legal age. He declares his wife and sister Cleopatra II to be co-regent and his younger brother Ptolemy VIII to be co-regent. A little later there was the Sixth Syrian War between Egypt and the Seleucid Empire under Antiochus IV , which presumably had his nephew and co-regent of the same name eliminated in August.

- Under the hapless Aulus Hostilius Mancinus , the Romans failed to gain space in the Third Macedonian-Roman War . Meanwhile Perseus of Macedonia concludes a separate peace with Genthios of Illyria . After the first break with Perseus at the beginning of the war, he is aware that the Romans will no longer see him as an equal ally and decides to take the side of the supposed future victor. Epirus also changes to the side of Perseus.
- Cincibilus , King of Noricum , signs a friendship treaty with the Romans .
