2-Ethoxyethyl acetate is a chemical compound from the group of substituted carboxylic acid esters and acetates .

Extraction and presentation

2-Ethoxyethyl acetate can be obtained by reacting 2-ethoxyethanol with acetic anhydride or by esterifying 2-ethoxyethanol with acetic acid in the presence of a catalyst .

Production by reaction of ethyl acetate with ethylene oxide is also possible .

properties

2-ethoxyethyl acetate is a flammable colorless liquid with a fruity odor, which is easily soluble in water. It decomposes when heated, producing irritating vapors and gases.

use

2-ethoxyethyl acetate is used as a solvent for natural and synthetic resins, oils, fats, plasticizers, nitrocellulose, celluloid and chlorinated rubber and is contained in paints and paint thinners.

safety instructions

The vapors of 2-ethoxyethyl acetate form an explosive mixture with air ( flash point 51 ° C, ignition temperature 380 ° C).
