Events
- Emperor Augustus introduces a fixed currency system . The system differentiates between gold coins (Aureus), silver coins (Denaurius), brass coins ( Sestertius, Dupondius) and copper coins (As). It worked throughout Europe well into modern times , before the Scot John Law in 1716 at the court of Louis XV. introduces the first real paper money . The coins all show the head of the ruler . They also symbolize the end of the Roman Republic . The coins are in circulation all over the world as far as Scandinavia , the Chinese Empire , India and Africa .
