The Black Sea coast at May 2

May 2 (pronounced doi mai ) is a village in Constanța County in the Romanian Dobruja . It is part of the Limanu municipality .

The place is also known as a seaside resort on the Black Sea coast .

Geographical location

The place 2 Mai is located a few kilometers from the Bulgarian border, between Mangalia and Vama Veche . It does not have its own train station, but the closest one is just a few kilometers away in Mangalia, with which the town is connected by numerous bus routes.

history

The place was founded in 1887 by Mihail Kogălniceanu and was first called Două Mai . The first settlers were Russians from Bucharest , Iași and Galați . Later came Lipovans from the region Tulcea and Romanians from the County of Arges added. The main sources of income for the locals are fishing, agriculture and tourism.

May 2 is suitable for tourists who prefer village tourism instead of mass tourism . Together with the village of Vama Veche a little further south, May 2 was considered a meeting place for individual tourists, artists, nonconformists - in the meantime the place has become commercial due to the attraction of this reputation, but camping on the beach is still allowed and gives the very small village a relaxed atmosphere. There is also a well-developed campsite here. The southern half of the beach is designed for nudist bathers, while the northern half is designed for ordinary bathers.

At the 2002 census, 2248 people were registered in the village on May 2. 1847 of them were Romanians, 289 were Lipovans , 97 Tatars , six Turks and five of them known themselves as Magyars .
