Limanu ( Karaçuklu in Turkish ) is a municipality in the Constanța district in Romania and is located in the historic Dobruja region .

history

Limanu was founded in 1863 by Turkish-Tatar settlers.

population

The 2002 census counted 4747 people, including 4180 Romanians , 297 Lipovans , 186 Tatars , 59 Roma , 13 Hungarians and 8 Turks . 4235 people are Orthodox Christians , 261 Old Believer Christians , 195 Muslims , 22 Baptists , 13 members of the Pentecostal Church and 12 Roman Catholics .

The place itself had 2300 inhabitants; the population of the municipality, which also includes the villages of Vama Veche , 2 Mai and Hagieni , was 4771 inhabitants in 2004.
