23 August (pronounced douăzeci și trei august [ ˈdouəzet͡ʃ ʃi trei august ]; outdated Tatlageac ) is a municipality in Constan Consta County in the Dobruja Region in Romania .

Geographical location

The municipality 23 August is located in the Dobruja Highlands ( Podișul Dobrogei ) - part of the Romanian Dobruja ( Dobrogea ) - and borders the Black Sea to the east . The place is on the European route 87 about halfway between the cities of Eforie in the north and Mangalia in the south; the district capital Constanța is located about 30 kilometers north of 23 August.

23 August has a total area of ​​749,400 hectares of which 87% are farmed, and about 55 hectares are forested. The municipality consists of the municipality seat 23 August (historical names: Tatlageacul Mare , Domnița Elena , Turkish Büyük-Tatlıcak ) and the incorporated villages of Dulcești (historical name: Tatlâgeacul Mic , Turkish: Küçük-Tatlıcak ) and Moșneni (historical name: Pervelia , Turkish : Perveli ).

According to archaeological finds around Lake Tatlageac - approx. One kilometer south of August 23rd - settlement in the region is dated back to Roman times.

The current location 23 August was known under the name Tatlageacul Mare at the time of the Turkish Empire . 1929 the place Domnița Elena ; named after 1944 after the day of the royal coup in Romania on August 23, 1944 . From 1994 to 1996 attempts were made to change the name of the place again to Tatlageacul Mare , which was rejected by the majority of the local population.

Demographics

At the 2002 census, there were 5279 people registered in the municipality on 23 August. 4,699 of them were Romanians, 509 Tatars , 44 Roma , 14 Turks , seven Magyars , two of whom were Ukrainians and Lipovans ; one each confessed to being a Serb and a Bulgarian . In 2011, an unofficial census in the municipality of 23 August recorded 4,813 Romanians (91.36%), 20 Roma (0.38%), 20 Turks (0.38%), 408 Tatars (7.74%) and 7 others (0.13%) registered.

Attractions

  • The place 23 August has no special attraction and although it is also located on the Black Sea, it is not considered a health resort. The Tatlageac lake is located in the municipality .
  • In the incorporated village of Moșneni (one kilometer to the southwest), the ruins of a villa rustica built in the 3rd century are under monument protection.
