Eforie is a city on the Black Sea in Constanța County in Romania .
Geographical location
Eforie is located on an isthmus between the Black Sea to the east and the lagoon of Techirghiol Lake to the west. The district capital Constanța is located about 15 kilometers north of Eforie.
history
The town of Eforie consists of the parts Eforie Nord and Eforie Sud . Today's city or its parts changed their names several times ( Techirghiol-Movilă , Băile Movilă , Carmen Sylva , Vasile Roaită ). Eforie Nord was founded in 1894 when a sanatorium for the treatment of rheumatic diseases was built here. This settlement originally belonged to Techirghiol before becoming an independent town in 1933. Eforie Sud was first established in 1899 on the territory of the municipality of Tuzla and was named a town in 1945. In 1966 both cities were administratively united.
The most important economic sectors are bathing tourism and the income from balneotherapy , which is operated in particular with the sludge from Lake Techirghiol (Romanian: Lacul Techirghiol ).
population
The population increased rapidly from 1948 (1503) to 1977 (9507) and has remained essentially constant since then. In 2002, 9,465 people lived in Eforie, including 8,587 Romanians , 395 Tatars , 212 Turks, 177 Roma , 37 Hungarians , 19 Russians or Lipovans and 11 Poles . 4748 lived in Eforie Nord, 4717 in Eforie Sud.
traffic
Eforie is on the railway line from Constanța to Mangalia . Currently (2009) around eight passenger trains per day run in both directions; there are occasional direct connections to Bucharest. Eforie Nord and Eforie Sud train stations are located on the city's territory. The European route 87 runs through the city . There are bus connections to Constanța.
