The existence of the place has been attested since around 1750. At that time, like the whole of Dobruja, it belonged to the Ottoman Empire . It originated at the crossroads of trade routes and was a regional trade center; the Turkish name Paraköy means something like "money village". In 1850 Băneasa became a municipality and at that time already had a Romanian church, and in 1869 also a Romanian school.

In 1878 the place came to Romania. In 1916 it was the scene of fighting during the First World War . In 2004 Băneasa was declared a city.

The main industries are agriculture and trade.
