Techirghiol (former name: Tekirgöl ) is a small town on Lake Techirghiol in Dobruja ( Dobrogea ) in the Constanța district in Romania .
etymology
The name comes from the Turkish word Tekirgöl , which means "the lake of Tekir".
According to legend, a blind and crippled man named Tekir accidentally reached the lake with a donkey . When Tekir tried to pull the animal out of the mud, he was healed and could see and walk normally again, which made the healing properties of the lake famous. There is now a statue of Tekir with his donkey in the city.
spa
The city, which is also a health resort , was founded near Lake Techirghiol (11.6 km²). Also worth seeing is the nearby Techirghiol Monastery, which was founded in 1760 by immigrants from Maioreşti ( Mureş County ).
