The 3rd Marine Division was a major unit of the Imperial Navy in the First World War .

history

Due to the AKO of June 9, 1917, the 3rd Marine Division was formed. It consisted mainly of marine infantry and was used exclusively on the Western Front during the First World War . The division was subordinate to the Marine Corps Flanders and was responsible for securing the coast of Flanders in the area of ​​the municipalities Lombardsijde, Westende , Middelkerke , Wilskerke, Leffinge, Snaaskerke, Ettelgem and Oudenburg .

After the end of the war, the large association was demobilized on November 29, 1918 and finally dissolved in January 1919.
