4- (1,1-Dimethylpropyl) phenol is a chemical compound from the group of alkylphenols .

Extraction and presentation

4- (1,1-Dimethylpropyl) phenol can be produced by condensation of tert- pentanol or 2-methyl-3-butanol with phenol in the presence of aluminum chloride or by alkylation of phenol with isoamylene (mixture of 2-methyl-1-butene and 2 -Methyl-2-butene ) can be produced under acid catalysis.

properties

4- (1,1-Dimethylpropyl) phenol is a flammable, hardly inflammable, white solid with an aromatic odor, which is practically insoluble in water.

use

Similar to 4- tert- butylphenol , 4- (1,1-dimethylpropyl) phenol is used as a monomer in the manufacture of phenolic resins .

safety instructions

For 4- tert- pentylphenol, together with the structurally very similar 4- tert- butylphenol, the suspicion of an endocrine effect on the environment was clarified in the substance assessment. The evaluated data show that the substance is an endocrine disruptor for the environment.
