4-Hydroxybutyl vinyl ether is a chemical compound from the group of substituted vinyl ethers .
Extraction and presentation
4-Hydroxybutyl vinyl ether can be obtained by reacting 1,4-butanediol with ethyne in the presence of potassium hydroxide .
properties
4-Hydroxybutyl vinyl ether is a flammable, hardly inflammable, light-sensitive, colorless to yellowish liquid with an ethereal odor, which is soluble in water. The industrial product is marketed with potassium hydroxide as a stabilizer.
use
4-Hydroxybutyl vinyl ether is used as a building block for macromonomers and monomers for vinyl copolymers and cement additives, reactive thinners for UV-curing paints. The connection allows side chains with terminated hydroxyl groups to be inserted into copolymers.
safety instructions
The vapors of 4-hydroxybutyl vinyl ether can form an explosive mixture with air ( flash point 85 ° C, ignition temperature 255 ° C).
