The 7th Paratrooper Division was a major unit of the Luftwaffe of the German Wehrmacht during the Second World War . The division was set up on October 9, 1944 in Venlo in the Netherlands , under its division commander Lieutenant General Wolfgang Erdmann , by renaming the Erdmann Fallschirmjäger Division , which had already been set up in Arnhem in the Netherlands in August 1944 . The division kept the association badge of the predecessor association.

The division was used on the Western Front in the Netherlands, Alsace and Northern Germany . During the retreat in the direction of Schleswig-Holstein , the division fell into Allied captivity on May 4, 1945 near Cuxhaven .
