The AF Francesca is a ferry of the Italian shipping company Adria Ferries which was commissioned in 1979 . It was built as a domiziana for the Tirrenia - Compagnia italiana di navigazione and remained in use under this name until 2010. The ship has been serving Adria Ferries on the Bari to Durrës route since 2011 .
history
The Domiziana was built under hull number 4347 in the Italcantieri shipyard in Castellammare di Stabia and was launched on April 19, 1978. The handover to the Tirrenia - Compagnia italiana di navigazione took place on June 27, 1979. The ship belonged to the six-unit Strade-Romane class and was used on the route from Genoa to Porto Torres .
From 1987 to 1988 the Domiziana was rebuilt in the Fincantieri shipyard in Trieste and lengthened from 136 to 147.99 meters. She then returned to the ferry service from Genoa to Porto Torres, which she served for another fifteen years. Tirrenia last used the ship from July to September 2003 between Genoa, Naples and Cagliari .
Since September 2003 the Domiziana has been in use for the Adriatica di Navigazione between Bari and Durrës. In 2010 it briefly ran the route from Genoa to Olbia , but was launched in Crotone in September of the same year .
In May 2011, the ship became the property of Adria Ferries. After a stay in the shipyard in Durrës, the ferry began service between Bari and Durrës in July 2011. It was named AF Francesca in September 2011. From October to December of the same year, the AF Francesca was rebuilt in Tuzla , after which it returned to the ferry service.
