The AWA World Tag Team Championship was the tag team -Titel the US Wrestling -Promotion American Wrestling Association (AWA). It existed from 1960 until the doctorate was discontinued in 1991. As with all wrestling titles, they were awarded through a storyline .
history
After the American Wrestling Association split from the National Wrestling Association in May 1960 , Stan Kowalski and Tiny Mills , the then NWA World Tag Team Champions, were recognized as World Tag Team Champions. When they received the title a second time in August 1960, they eventually became the first AWA World Tag Team Champions and the NWA title was no longer recognized.
The title was considered the most prestigious tag team title in the United States for many years until the increasing influence of the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) and Jim Crockett Promotions finally brought the AWA down. The title was also discontinued with the closure of the doctorate. His rights are now with the WWE.
