action

The Texan city of Laredo in 1896. The five richest men in the area meet for their annual game of poker in the back room of a saloon. Henry Drummond left his daughter's wedding so he wouldn't be late for the game. Benson Tropp is a women hating undertaker. The preppy lawyer Otto Habershaw left his client, who is to be sentenced to death, so as not to miss the game. Dennis Wilcox got rich from raising cattle and Jesse Buford's greed is well known.

The game of poker resumes the next day when the farmer Meredith arrives in town with his wife Mary and son Jackie. Mary has the battered carriage repaired. Meanwhile, Meredith watches the game of poker. Meredith had vowed never to play again, but unable to resist the temptation, he took all the family money and entered the game. When Mary returns, Meredith has to raise another $ 500 to stay in the game. But the excitement and tension - there are now $ 20,000 on the table - coupled with Mary's indignation is too much for his heart and he collapses. Dr. Scully is called. Just before he passes out, he sends Mary to the poker table. To save the family's money, Mary, who doesn't know anything about poker, agrees.

With her poker hand she goes to the banker Ballinger and offers him the cards as a deposit. The initially amused players are astonished when the banker accepts the request and joins the game for Mary. He raised to $ 5,000. The others can't keep up and drop out. You leave $ 16,000. You console yourself with the fact that you have lost to a brave woman. What they don't know is that they have been given a trick. Meredith and Mary are professional gamblers, the doctor and banker are their accomplices.
