Aardman was founded in the 1970s as a "backyard project" by Peter Lord and David Sproxton , later Nick Park joined. Park made the Wallace & Gromit short films A Grand Day Out (1989), The Wrong Trousers (1993) and A Close Shave (1995), which received an Oscar nomination (1990) and two Academy Awards (1993 and 1995) in in the Best Animated Short Film category . Together with the short film Creature Comforts (1990), in which zoo animals talk about their everyday lives, the company was able to win three awards. The music video for Sledgehammer (1986) by Peter Gabriel , directed by Stephen R. Johnson , has also become famous . The animation is among others by Peter Lord and Nick Park.

In 2000, Aardman produced the film Chicken Run in collaboration with Dreamworks . The film was Aardman's first feature-length project. Wallace & Gromit followed in 2005 : On the hunt for the giant rabbit , which was also awarded an Oscar in 2006 for the best animated feature film category.

With Flutsch und weg Aardman broke new ground with Dreamworks Animation and produced her first computer-animated film in which the typical character design, humor and attention to detail were retained.

With Shaun the Sheep (Shaun the Sheep) created Aardman animation series with Shaun in the lead role, the sheep from A Close Shave . In Germany, the series is broadcast by the public children's channel (Ki.Ka) and as part of the show with the mouse .
