Aargau Patriotic Association

The Aargau Patriotic Association ( AVV ) was a right-wing Swiss organization that existed from 1918 to 2019.

Form and ideology

The AVV was founded on November 11, 1918 in Windisch AG «as a bourgeois reaction to the general strike of 1918 ». Was founding president Eugen Bircher , who close relations with the German Free Corps , as well as right-wing exponents and anti-democratic coup as Waldemar Pabst and Erich Ludendorff used. In April 1919 it joined forces with similar organizations from other cantons to form the Swiss Patriotic Association , which operated "armed vigilante groups and its own political intelligence service ". In the first years of its existence, the organization had over 15,000 members. Their original goal was to avert what they saw as the threat of a socialist overthrow in Switzerland. While the Swiss Patriotic Association dissolved itself in 1948 after a bribery scandal, its former Aargau section continued to exist until 2019. The AVV published the Bulletin Die Lupe ( OCLC 778338684 ) four times a year . After a massive decline in membership, the AVV, which last had only 200 members, decided to dissolve it in August 2019. The last president from 1995 to 2019 was the politician Andreas A. Glarner, who was on the right wing of the SVP .

In the publication " The Unheimlichen Patrioten ", the AVV was assigned to the New Right in 1979 . The “Supplementary Volume 1979-84” dedicates a subchapter in the chapter “ The reactionaries ” to the AVV .
