The scary patriots

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The uncanny patriots is a book from 1979 that lists over 1000 Swiss people and their right-wing to right-wing extremist classifications and activities. The controversially discussed book also became a legal case up to the Swiss Federal Supreme Court . The authors of the book are Jürg Frischknecht , Peter Haffner , Ueli Haldimann and Peter Niggli .

content

With its wealth of material, the book was considered a classic in the representation of the right-wing scene and its interdependencies in Switzerland. In it, the authors considered in particular the Hitler-friendly attitude of Swiss business and academic circles in the 1930s and 1940s.

effect

The book made political waves and had consequences for those affected. For example, pastor Gerd Zikeli lost his job at the Evangelical Reformed parish of Straubenzell St. Gallen West because of his neo-Nazi activities documented in the book , which also resulted in a legal review up to the Swiss Federal Court. The National Councilor Robert Eibel also tried unsuccessfully before the federal court.

The eerie patriots were cited by right-wing circles as evidence that the political left in Switzerland also led fiche over Swiss. The book was used as a source for various personal articles in the Historical Lexicon of Switzerland , for example on Peter Dürrenmatt , Robert Eibel, Rudolf Farner , Jean-Jacques Hegg , Ernst Mörgeli , Ernst Cincera and Andreas Sprecher von Bernegg .
