Working life
He is a graduate of Ohio State University and works full time as a history teacher at St. Charles Preparatory School in Columbus in the US state of Ohio . There he is also head of the environmental working group. In addition, he was the head coach of the school's wrestling team for four years until 2008 , before resigning to have more time for his family.
American football
Shrine ran university flag football games as a student . His performance was so convincing that he was appointed to the National Flag Football Championships in New Orleans for four years in a row . He then worked as a referee in American football at high school games between 1989 and 2008 . Between 1998 and 2008 he also headed games in Division III and Division I-AA (renamed Football Championship Subdivision in 2006) of the NCAA and played in eight play-off games.
In the run-up to and at the beginning of the 2012 NFL season there was a lockout of the regular referees who were demanding higher wages. Until the third match day, they were therefore replaced by referees from lower-class leagues. During this time, Schrein was hired as a back judge on his own initiative . Together with his colleagues, he received intensive training courses over several summer weekends. He also attended training camps with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Baltimore Ravens . His first assignment in the preseason he had on August 11th in the Houston Texans game with the Carolina Panthers . After a total of three preseason games and three regular season games, his time in the National Football League ended when the lockout was lifted at the end of September.
In the following years, shrine resumed his work as a referee at high school and college level - sometimes as a side judge . On January 26, 2013, he was part of the refereeing team at the Senior Bowl , in Mobile ( Alabama was held).
