Abram Ossipowitsch Gukassow ( Russian Абрам Осипович Гукасов ; born November 23 . Jul / 5. December 1872 greg. In Shusha in Nagorno-Karabakh in the former province Jelisawetpol ; † 27. April 1969 in Geneva ) was a Armenian - Russian businessman and patron .
Life
Gukassow, younger brother of petroleum entrepreneur Pavel Osipovich Gukassow from the family Gukassjan ( Armenian Ղուկասյան ), visited in Moscow the Lazarev -Institute for Oriental Languages with completion in 1890. Then he started in Odessa to study at the physico - mathematical faculty of the new Russian university , which he graduated from the University of Leipzig in 1894. He became a doctor of natural sciences ( geology ) and in 1898 doctor of philosophy.
From 1899 Gukassow lived in London . He represented his family's European business and was head of the Caspian Society in Europe. In 1907 he founded the shipbuilding company Balting Trading Company . During the First World War he managed the Pella shipyard in Petrograd .
After the October Revolution , Gukassow emigrated to France and founded the shipbuilding company for petroleum tankers Les Petroles d'Outre-Mer . In 1925 he founded the magazine Wiedergeburt and published it until 1940. He financed the Congress of Russians Abroad in Paris . From 1926 he was managing director of the Russian Central Association.
After the Second World War , Gukassow founded the rebirth in 1949 as a literary - political magazine, which appeared until 1974. He founded the Armenian Brothers Gukassjan Foundation .
