Absecon is a city in Atlantic County , New Jersey . A population of 7,638 was registered at the census .

The city's geographic coordinates are 39 ° 25'49 "north latitude and 74 ° 30'14" west longitude.
According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 17.9 km² , of which 14.8 km² is land and 3.1 km² (17.46%) is water.
Demographics
As of the 2000 census, there are 7,638 people, 2,773 households and 2,085 families in the city. The population density is 515.6 inhabitants per km². 83.31% of the population is White, 6.01% African American , 0.17% Native American , 7.46% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 1.51% from other races, and 1.54% mixed race . 3.77% are Latinos of any race.
Of the 2,773 households, 32.5% have children under the age of 18. 59.6% of them are married couples living together, 11.2% are single mothers, 24.8% are not families, 19.2% are single households and 7.9% are people over 65. The average household size is 2 , 69, the average family size 3.08.
23.5% of the population are under 18 years old, 5.7% between 18 and 24, 29.6% between 25 and 44, 25.1% between 45 and 64, 16.1% older than 65. The average age is 40 years. The ratio of women to men is 100: 92.0, for people older than 18 the ratio is 100: 88.4.
