Abu Umar al-Almani

Abu Umar al-Almani ( Arabic أبو عمر الألماني, DMG Abū ʿUmar al-Almānī ; * 1986 in Stuttgart ; † March 25, 2017 at ath-Thaura , ar-Raqqa , Syria ) was the self-chosen battle name of the German-born terrorist and Islamic fundamentalist Yamin Abou-Zand of the terrorist organization Islamic State . He committed war crimes in Syria and was wanted by the German authorities.

Life

Yamin Abou-Zand moved with his parents to Königswinter near Bonn in 2000 . After his marriage, he lived in seclusion with his wife. He started training at Deutsche Telekom . According to his employer, at the end of 2013 and beginning of 2014 he changed and suddenly expressed sympathy for ISIS. The group had informed the security authorities, said a spokesman. A year later, Abou-Zand stopped showing up for his work and initiated the resignation . Without informing his family of his plans, he traveled to Syria via Turkey in 2014 and joined the IS units.

Abu Umar published recordings with the 30-year-old Austrian IS terrorist Mohamed Mahmoud , which are considered to be the first exclusively German-language propaganda video of the Islamic State . In the video, the Austrian put pressure on indecisive jihad fans in Germany and Austria to finally travel to the Islamic State (IS) in Syria. Abu Umar also had his say in the video. He spoke monotonously and, according to the Spiegel, appeared “almost a little absent”. In the video, Abu Umar murdered a helpless prisoner in Palmyra .

Abu Umar al-Almani was killed on 25 March 2017 in clashes with units of the Syrian Democratic Forces near the Tabqa Dam .
