Acasio is a town in the Potosí department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Acasio is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Acasio in the province of Bernardino Bilbao . The village is located at an altitude of 3004  m on a plateau between several headwaters of the Río Acasio , which flows 16 kilometers further downstream into the Río Caine , the upper reaches of the Río Grande .

geography

Acasio lies between the Bolivian Cordillera Central and the Cordillera Oriental in the transition area to the Bolivian lowlands. The climate of the region is a typical daytime climate in which the mean temperature fluctuation during the day is more pronounced than between the seasons.

The mean average temperature of the region is around 14-15 ° C (see climate diagram Arampampa) and fluctuates between just under 11 ° C in June and July and just under 17 ° C in November and December. The annual precipitation is a good 500 mm and has a pronounced dry season from April to October with monthly precipitation of 0 to 20 mm, only in the short humid period from January to February 100 to 140 mm monthly precipitation.

Transport network

Acasio is located at a distance of 278 kilometers by road east of Oruro , the capital of the neighboring Oruro department .

From Oruro, the paved road Ruta 1 leads south 22 kilometers via Vinto to Machacamarquita , eight kilometers north of Machacamarca . In Machacamarquita, the route 6 branches off in a south-easterly direction and reaches the city of Llallagua after 79 kilometers via Huanuni and over pass heights of more than 4,500 m . From there the Ruta 6 leads another seven kilometers to the provincial capital Uncía . Here a dirt road branches off to the east and after seventeen kilometers it reaches Chayanta.From here to Acasio there is another 150 kilometers on a serpentine unpaved road that crosses the Río Chayanta at an altitude of 3,250 m at Colloma and on its further way up again ascends over 4,400 m before finally winding down to the valley of Acasio.

Due to the historical population development, the region has a high proportion of Aymara population, in the municipality of Acasio 67.6 percent of the population speak the Aymara language .
