description

Acer flabellatum grows as a deciduous tree that can reach heights of up to 10 meters. The bark is smooth. The elliptical winter buds are ciliate on the edges.

The constantly against arranged on the branches leaves consist of a up to 7 cm long, slender petiole and leaf blade. The paper-like or membranous, simple, 8 to 12 centimeters wide leaf blade is seven-lobed. The leaf lobes are broadly ovate, more rarely oval or triangular-oval in shape. Their tip is usually pointed and the leaf margin is serrated irregularly. The upper side of the leaf is dark green, the underside light green. Both leaf surfaces are hairless with the exception of the protruding veins .

Acer flabellatum is Andromonöz . The flowering period includes the month of June. The panicle inflorescence is around 5 centimeters long and stands on a 3 centimeter long stem. The five-fold flowers are on a 1 millimeter long peduncle. The egg-shaped petals are about the same size as the sepals . There is an extrastaminal disk. The eight stamens and the ovary are hairless.

Yellowish-brown, 3 to 4 centimeters long and 1 to 1.2 centimeters thick, winged nuts develop. The nut fruit is more or less spherical with a length of around 6 millimeters and a diameter of 5 millimeters. The fruits ripen in October.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 26.

Distribution and location

The natural range of Acer flabellatum includes the Chinese provinces of Guangxi , Guizhou , West Hubei , Jiangxi , Sichuan and Yunnan , as well as parts of Myanmar and Vietnam .

Acer flabellatum grows in mixed forests at altitudes of 800 to 3500 meters.

Systematics

Acer flabellatum Rehder is also referred to as the subspecies Acer campbellii subsp. flabellatum from Acer campbellii . Due to the same biochemical structure, Herman John Oterdoom sees it as only a young form of Acer campbellii . Other synonyms for Acer flabellatum include Acer heptalobum Diels , Acer heptaphlebium Gagnep. , Acer mapienense W.P.Fang and Acer shangszeense W.P.Fang & TPSoong . Acer campbellii and Acer flabellatum belong to the Palmata section in the genus Acer .
