Achim Plato

Achim Plato (born March 8, 1936 in Riesa ) is a German actor and artistic director. From 1968 to 2003 he directed the open-air theater in Schwäbisch Hall , from 1978 as its director.

Life

Plato grew up in Dresden and moved to Stuttgart in 1955 after two years of juvenile imprisonment in Dessau . He studied theater there, in Austria and Switzerland and accepted engagements as an actor. In 1960 he came to Schwäbisch Hall , and in 1963 he worked there as assistant director to the open-air theater director Wilhelm Speidel. After Speidel's death in 1968, the Freilichtspielkuratorium initially appointed him artistic trustee, 1973 artistic director and 1978 artistic director. Due to the rise, reputation and diversity of the Schwäbisch Hall open-air theater by Achim Plato, he received the Federal Cross of Merit in 2000 .

Achim Plato was the longest-serving artistic director in 2003 at the age of 35 and made her one of the most successful open-air plays in Germany. One of his special achievements was that in 2000 he was able to win over the Haller citizenship with the support of the Lord Mayor Hermann-Josef Pelgrim for the construction of another venue, the Haller Globe Theater.

He received a lot of recognition for his work through regular invitations to guest performances, to Wiltz in Luxembourg and Lichtensteig in Switzerland, also in German-speaking countries.

Actors such as Wolf Kaiser , Daniela Ziegler , Wolfgang Stendar , Monika Woytowicz , Alexander Strobele and Ilja Richter played in his productions in Schwäbisch Hall .

After his retirement he moved to Dresden in 2003. In neighboring Radebeul, he supported the management of the State Theaters of Saxony and staged The Visit of the Old Lady by Friedrich Dürrenmatt in the main building and Wilhelm Tell by Friedrich Schiller on the Rathen rock stage . He became a member of the New Saxon Art Association and a member of the Friends of the Dresden Kupferstich-Kabinett, of which he was elected 1st chairman. He is on the board of the Freundeskreis der Landesbühnen.
