Acidosasa is a genus of woody, shrub to tree-like growing bamboo species . The distribution area is in China and Vietnam.

description

The representatives of the genus Acidosasa grow shrub to tree-shaped. The rhizomes are leptomorphic. The stalks stand upright and grow scattered. The internodes are round and slightly grooved directly over the branches. The nodes are slightly protruding. In the middle of the stalk three knots are formed, and three to five branches towards the tip. The straw sheaths fall off early and are sparsely hairy with bristles. The auricles are small or may be absent, they may be ciliate (oral setae). The blade blade is lanceolate or triangular. The leaves are usually medium-sized, the auricles are small or may be missing. The leaf blade shows a large number of secondary leaf veins.

The inflorescences are terminal racemes or racemose panicles without bracts. The spikelets are long-stalked, thick and form several to many florets. Two to four glumes are formed per spikelet . The palea is large, many-nerved, pointed or short spiny-pointed. The lemma is usually shorter than the palea, twice keeled and veined between the keels. Three membranous cavernous bodies that are translucent at the edge are formed. The six stamens have detached stamens, the anthers are yellow. The ovary has only indistinctly developed appendages. A stylus with three feathered stigmas is formed.

New shoots appear in spring or early summer, the species bloom from summer to autumn.

Distribution and ecology

The natural range of the eleven species is in China and Vietnam, ten species are endemic to China.
