history

The city is named after Lord Acworth , an English nobleman . The city was first founded in 1752, when the city was still called Colony Burnet after a colonial governor of Massachusetts Bay . When no settlers settled under these statutes, the settlement became vacant in 1766 and finally re-established as Acworth in 1772. The city of Acworth , Georgia, takes its name from the city because a local railroad engineer came from here.

The publisher, author and MP Hiram Orcutt (1815-1889) was born in Acworth.
