Ad Patres is a French death metal band from Bordeaux that was founded in 2008.

history

The band was formed in December 2008. The members were active in other bands until they were founded. However, since these were not very successful and the members knew each other well, some decided to found Ad Patres. In 2011, the group, which had previously been able to increase their awareness through a demo that was released at the end of 2010 , was able to act as the opening band for Hellfest . In 2011 there was a split publication with Writhing. Her debut album was released in 2012 under the name Scorn Aesthetics . In 2014 the band played a live session on the radio show Le Mouv ' on the French broadcaster FIP . In the same year the group could be seen at the German Death Feast Open Air . The following year the group continued to be active live and was occasionally represented at the Belgian Mass Deathtruction Festival . The second album followed in 2019 under the name A Brief Introduction to Human Experiments . In their career, the band has performed with groups such as Morbid Angel , Cryptopsy , Krisiun , Septicflesh and Napalm Death , among others .

style

Florian von Metal.de wrote in his review of Scorn Aesthetics that it contains extremely uncompromising Death Metal in the style of Morbid Angel and Suffocation , which is characterized by "[f] his drumming, razor-sharp riffs and an angry organ". The songs are played technically flawlessly, but are not memorable in the long run. He recommended the music to fans of brutal death metal . According to Florian Schmidt from Rock Hard , the band plays Death Metal “with a certain technical orientation”. The music is influenced by North America and brings back memories of bands like Cannibal Corpse , Dying Fetus and Suffocation. He was particularly impressed by Doussaud's guttural singing . In terms of text, one deals with the teaching of psychology and draws comparisons between psychoanalysts and inquisitors . One issue later, Schmidt described the album's music as brutal, technically demanding death metal, making it very suitable for fans of suffocation. In an interview with him, bassist Arnaud Pecoste stated that the band is most often compared to suffocation. In addition to this group, he gave Morbid Angel, Hate Eternal , the early Decapitated and, as far as the groove was concerned, the early Psycroptic as influences from Ad Patres . He is responsible for the lyrics, taking inspiration from different things.

Ollie Fröhlich from Ox-Fanzine described the music of A Brief Introduction to Human Experiments as “over- tech death metal ” because the band processed “more ideas per riff than other bands per song”. The group managed to combine " virtuosity , which ensures that the lower jaws are folded down, with maximum brutality and a murderous groove, while the growler taxes weird texts". However, you will look in vain for a catchy tune .
