Adalbert Schmitt (born March 1, 1932 in Frankfurt am Main ; † June 19, 2005 ) was a German entrepreneur and restaurateur.

Life

Schmitt was born on March 1, 1932 in Frankfurt am Main. After an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk , in his own words the only time in his life in which he had a boss, he set out with 22 years in the plastics industry independently . In Wertheim he produced plastic items for the household, in his company he was primarily responsible for design and quality control . Supported by the economic miracle , he was a wealth millionaire after just three years. In 1959 the company moved to its own premises in Kreuzwertheim and soon employed 250 to 300 people.

Schmitt had seven children with three women.

In 1971, Schmitt retired from active management of his company and founded the Schweizer Stuben in Wertheim- Bettingen . This hotel with two and later three restaurants became a place of pilgrimage for gourmets in the following years.

Schmitt was also able to look back on experiences with life abroad: he had lived in Tuscany , Liguria and Provence for many years and worked as a photographer , photographed "beautiful pubs, beautiful products" and published them in seven self-published books. In 20 years he has sold around 35,000 books.

After the plastics factory, the Schweizer Stuben also had to file for bankruptcy in 2002 . New tenants were found at short notice, but they were also insolvent a short time later in 2004.

Schmitt, who had made a name for himself in the world of gourmets, died on June 19, 2005.
