Adam Adamandy Kochański
Adam Adamandy Kochański (born August 5, 1631 in Dobrzyń nad Wisłą , Poland , † May 17, 1700 in Teplitz , Bohemia ) was a Polish mathematician .
Kochański attended a grammar school in Torun and from 1652 studied philosophy , mathematics , physics and theology in Vilnius . He later taught these subjects a. a. in Florence , Prague , Breslau , Mainz and Würzburg . In 1677 he was appointed court mathematician and librarian to King John III in Warsaw . Sobieski .
Most well-known is his so-called approximation construction by Kochański , developed in 1685 , with which a square can be constructed that is almost the same area as a given circle, i.e. represents an approximate solution of the quadrature of the circle .
Kochański also dealt with the problems of the construction of mechanical clocks .
