Career

Adam Berkhoel began his career in 1999 in the US Junior League USHL with the Twin City Vulcans. After good performance, he was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft in the eighth round at position 240. In the following four years he attended the University of Denver and won the national college championship of the NCAA with their ice hockey team in 2004 .

In June 2004 his rights were transferred from the Chicago Blackhawks to the Atlanta Thrashers and he played the 2004/05 season with their farm teams Chicago Wolves from the American Hockey League and Gwinnett Gladiators from the ECHL . In the 2005/06 game year he was again mainly used for the farm teams, but was also used nine times by the Thrashers in the NHL .

In the summer of 2006 he signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Sabers . But even here he was only used for the farm teams of the AHL and ECHL. In July 2007, the Detroit Red Wings signed him for their AHL farm team Grand Rapids Griffins , where he came in the 2007/08 season as a substitute goalkeeper for Jimmy Howard on 31 missions.

After his contract expired, he signed a contract with the AHL team Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins in August 2008 . At the Penguins he was regularly used in his first season as a substitute goalkeeper behind John Curry . When Berkhoel was only the third goalkeeper in Wilkes-Barre in the 2009/10 season , he received match practice with the Wheeling Nailers from the ECHL. When his contract expired at the end of the season, the management of the Penguins did not extend it.
