Adam Grünbaum
Adam Barthold Gustav Grünbaum (born November 1 . Jul / 14. November 1904 greg. In Tbilisi , Russian Empire ; † 10. May 1979 in Munich ) was a Baltic German lawyer.
Life
Grünbaum studied law at the University of Dorpat from 1923 to 1927 . He graduated cum laude . From 1927 to 1932 he worked in the law firm of the Estonian lawyer and politician Mihkel Pung . From 1932 to 1936 he worked in the office of his fellow student, the Estonian-Jewish lawyer Malka Schliefstein , who had previously also worked for Pung. From 1935 until the occupation of Estonia by the Red Army in 1940 was Green Tree Director in Tallinn resident corporation Laferme , one of the largest tobacco and cigarette factories in the country. In 1940 Grünbaum began a brief activity for the German legation in Tallinn . The embassy was closed in August 1940. In 1941 he went to Germany . He was initially employed as an economic consultant in Posen in the Reichsgau Wartheland . He later worked for the Reich Ministry for the Occupied Eastern Territories in Tallinn, Riga and Berlin . From 1943 to 1945 he served in the army (Wehrmacht) . Grünbaum survived the Second World War and from 1947 to 1950 he was head of the economic aid committee in Augsburg . From 1951 he worked for the US armed forces in Germany . He continued to support the Baltic Germans in the Federal Republic . He was chairman of the Bavarian regional association of the German-Baltic Society and later for many years Secretary General of the Baltic Society in Germany. Grünbaum was editor of the magazine Mitteilungen aus dem Baltic Leben . From 1959 to 1979 he was chairman of the Fraternitas Normannia, which had come to West Germany from St. Petersburg via Dorpat and Reval .
