Adolf Johann Karl Freiherr von Bettendorf (* 2. September 1640 (date of baptism) in Koenigstein im Taunus , † 15. December 1705 ibid) was Friedberger Burggraf and Electoral Mainz upper office man in Koenigstein im Taunus.

Life

Adolf Johann Karl Freiherr von Bettendorf came from the Mainz branch of the von Bettendorf family . He was the son of Lieutenant Colonel (who had been in command of Königstein Fortress from 1636 to 1642 ) Johann Peter Christoph von Bettendorf and his wife Maria Margarethe von Kronberg . As the second son, he was to embark on a church career. At the age of 10 he therefore became Domicellar of the Mainz and Würzburg cathedral chapters. After the death of his older brother Kasimir Heinrich, he was instead head of the Mainz branch of his family and an imperial knight. As an imperial knight he belonged to the Rhenish and Frankish knight circles. This was based on his inherited possessions in Franconia and the Rhineland. In 1670 he was accepted into the castle team in Friedberg and was burgrave there from 1699–1705.

He carried the title of an imperial real councilor and a Kurmainzer privy councilor . In 1698 he was raised to the status of imperial baron.

With a deed dated January 18, 1680, he received (as the successor to Gerhard Adam von Staffel, who died childless) Castle and village of Falkenstein as Nassau-Weilburg fief .

Elector Anselm Franz von Ingelheim appointed him on June 15, 1682 to the Oberamtmann in the Oberamt Königstein. This enclosed the enclave Falkenstein. With this personality, the elector secured an influence beyond the upper office. Adolf Johann Karl Freiherr von Bettendorf died on December 15, 1705 in the administrative building in Königstein. He was buried on December 18, 1705 in the family crypt in the Capuchin Monastery in Königstein , which was newly built with papal permission . His son Lothar Johann Karl Freiherr von Bettendorf became his successor.

family

In November 1671 he married Maria Margarethe Kämmerin von Worms, Freiin von Dalberg . The marriage had four children. His son Lothar Johann Karl was his successor, his three daughters entered the Oberwerth monastery .

After the death of his first wife, he married Anna Maria Kämmerin von Worms, Freiin von Dalberg on January 29, 1682. There were also four children from this marriage. His son Anselm Friedrich (1681–1742) was prelate of the Mainz and Worms cathedral. The three daughters were married well. Maria Margarethe married Baron Gottfried von Frankenstein on November 25, 1710. Maria Elisabeth married Baron Philipp Adam Sigismund Schenk zu Stauffenberg on September 11, 1713. Maria Eva married Freiherr Philipp Christoph von und zu Erthal on January 31, 1917.
