Adolf Theer

Adolf Theer (born May 2, 1811 in Johannesberg ; † April 23, 1868 in Vienna ; also Adolph Theer ) was an Austrian painter and lithographer .

Life

Adolf Theer's parents were the gemstone cutter Joseph Theer and the embroiderer Thekla Theer . His older brother Robert Theer and younger brother Albert Theer also became painters. The Theer family moved from Johannesberg in Silesia to the capital Vienna in 1820 .

From 1827 to 1830 Adolf Theer trained as an engraver at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna . From 1832 he learned history drawing there. From 1832 to 1848 he was one of the artists whose work was most frequently seen at the Academy's annual exhibitions. In January 1852 the Austrian Art Association showed works by Adolf Theer. His customers came mainly from the upper middle class.

He died of gout at the age of 56 .

Adolf tar acted as a watercolorist who are already on the beginning of his career miniature - Portraiture specialized. He also worked as a copyist of paintings by Caravaggio , Domenichino , Thomas Lawrence , Murillo , Raffael and Philip van Dijk, among others . As a lithographer, Theer created portraits of personalities such as the doctor Karl Folwarczny , the actress Luise Neumann and the Duke of Reichstadt as a child.

He also worked a lot as an illustrator of paperbacks and almanacs , for example for Johann Gabriel Seidl's Aurora and Gedenke mein and Ignaz Franz Castelli's homage to women . In his illustrations he created especially schematic and expressionless depictions of women.
