Christoph Gottlieb Adolf Freiherr Scheurl von Defersdorf , also Freiherr von Scheurl (born January 7, 1811 in Nuremberg ; † January 23, 1893 ibid) was a German legal scholar , especially in canon law .

Life

Adolf Scheurl von Defersdorf belonged to an aristocratic family originally from Swabia and belonging to the Nuremberg patriciate since 1729 . From 1827 he studied at the Universities of Erlangen and Munich . In 1827 he became a member of the Arminia Erlangen fraternity . After completing his studies, he was an assessor at courts in Erlangen and Nuremberg from 1831 and received his doctorate in Roman law in 1834 . From 1834 he worked as a private lecturer in Erlangen . He completed his habilitation in Erlangen in 1836, was appointed associate professor in 1840 and full professor in 1845. In 1856 he received the title of Doctor of Theology from the theological faculty of the University of Erlangen. He retired in 1881.

In addition to his academic activities, he was a member of the Old Liberals of the Second Chamber of the Bavarian Parliament from 1845 to 1849 .

On November 8, 1884 Scheurl was raised to the Bavarian baron class in Munich and enrolled in the baron class on December 3, 1884.

In addition to numerous pamphlets with predominantly ecclesiastical content, he also wrote several recognized specialist books. From 1857 he was also co-editor of the Journal for Protestantism and Church .
