Adolf von Schwarz (born February 17, 1807 in Vienna as Adolf Schwarz ; † December 16, 1872 ibid) was an Austrian statistician , lawyer and author .

Life

Adolf Schwarz was born in Vienna on February 17, 1807, the son of Johann Heinrich Schwarz, the mayor of Deutschbrod . After high school in Deutschbrod and Klagenfurt , where he had moved with his mother after the early death of his father in 1820, he began studying law at the University of Vienna in 1824 , which he graduated in 1828. After he had passed his judicial examination in 1830, he entered court practice at the Vienna Cathedral Chapter in 1832 . Before that, his professor, Count Vidoll, wanted to bring him to the military border as a judge, before the area of ​​activity in the Vienna Cathedral Chapter opened up. From 1833 he was a patrimonial officer and in the following year 1834 he became the prince-archbishop's legal advisor in Ober Sankt Veit . In 1836, Schwarz became a judicial administrator in Neunkirchen . After the dissolution of the patrimonial jurisdiction, Schwarz came to the Regional Court of Wiener Neustadt in 1850 to organize the public prosecutor's office with the rank of Higher Regional Court Councilor (OLGR) . There he acted as public prosecutor in the first jury trial in Austria .

In 1854, Schwarz took over the management of the public prosecutor's office at the Vienna Regional Court and during this time became a pioneer of criminal justice statistics in Austria. Initially only intended to keep records of business transactions, in 1857 he was entrusted with the design of the necessary forms. His statistical publications were then met with great acclaim. In 1859 Schwarz rose to the position of third vice-president at the Vienna Regional Court and took over the management of the Vienna Criminal Court from 1863 to 1864. In 1872, when he was also awarded the honorary title of councilor , von Schwarz retired as Vice President of the Vienna Regional Court in criminal matters. On December 16 of the same year, at the age of 65, he died in his hometown of Vienna from the consequences of a "brain and lung disease". The former mayor's son had not recovered properly from a broken leg in Piaristengasse in the winter of 1871/72 and was described as "continuously sickly" in the period after the broken leg. The funeral took place on December 19, 1872. Of his five sons, Vincent (1839–1915), a judge of the state, Cecil (1844–1912), an ironworks director in British India and Colonel Heinrich (1845–1915) are particularly noteworthy. Furthermore, he also left his wife and a daughter.
