Adolph von Wangenheim

Christoph Adolph von Wangenheim (* 1648 in Celle ; † September 12, 1709 in Berlin ) was a Brandenburg lieutenant general .

Life

origin

Adolph was a member of the Thuringian noble family von Wangenheim . He was a son of the royal Brunswick chief forest and hunter, Georg von Wangenheim (1602–1678) and his wife Katharina Sybille, born von Hünecke († 1669).

Military career

Wangenheim began his career in 1665 as an ensign in Brandenburg . After he was promoted to lieutenant in 1673, he took part in the war against Sweden , especially the battle of Fehrbellin and the sieges of Stettin and Stralsund . On August 15, 1677 he was promoted to Rittmeister and was given command of the 1st Company of the Guard . On October 24, 1678, Wangenheim was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on June 8, 1684 to colonel of the satellite guard .

From December 9, 1688 to February 9, 1689, he was sent to Dresden as the Kurbrandenburg ambassador in military matters . On the occasion of the death of Elector Johann Georg III. of Saxony , Wangenheim was from Friedrich III. again delegated to Dresden, where he stayed on this matter from October 31 to November 14, 1691.

On January 16, 1690 Wangenheim was promoted to major general. In 1695 he became the commander of the body regiment on horseback , was promoted to lieutenant general on July 11, 1696 and became chief of the K 3 Cuirassier regiment on April 9, 1699 .

Wangenheim was a knight of the Order of St. John and of the Order de la Générosité .

His first marriage was to Susanne Elisabeth von Wangenheim († 1678) and his second marriage in Potsdam in 1679 to Freiin Eleonore Luise von Canitz .
