Adrian Doyle

Adrian Leo Doyle AM (born November 16, 1936 in Hobart , Tasmania ) is a retired Roman Catholic Archbishop of Hobart .

Life

Doyle was born in Hobart in 1936 as one of three children. He attended St Mary's College in Hobart, Sacred Heart College in New Town , and St Virgil's College , also in Hobart , before beginning his studies at Corpus Christi College in Werribee on March 1 . September 1956 joined Doyle at the Urban College de Propaganda Fide in Rome and was on 20 December 1961 by Cardinal Grégoire-Pierre Agagianian for priests ordained .

After Doyle received his doctorate in Canon Law at the Pontifical Gregorian University in 1965 , he returned to Tasmania a little later that year. From 1973 to 1998 he was a chaplain in the Italian parish in Hobart.

Pope John Paul II named Doyle Coadjutor Bishop of Hobart on February 10, 1997 . He was ordained episcopal on February 6, 1998 by Archbishop Joseph Eric D'Arcy . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Parramatta , Kevin Michael Manning , and the Bishop of Ballarat , Peter Joseph Connors .

After Pope John Paul II granted Archbishop D'Arcy's resignation, Doyle succeeded him as Archbishop of Hobart on July 26, 1999. His inauguration took place on August 26th at St Mary's Cathedral.

On July 19, 2013, Pope Francis accepted his resignation due to reasons of age.
