Adrian Thomas Smith

Adrian Thomas Smith SM (born May 4, 1940 in Dublin ) is an Irish religious and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Honiara in the Solomon Islands .

Life

Adrian Thomas Smith joined the religious order of the Marist Fathers and was ordained a priest on March 26, 1966 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Honiara and titular bishop of Vissalsa on February 19, 1983 . The Archbishop of Honiara, Daniel Willem Stuyvenberg SM, donated him episcopal ordination on April 24th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Peter Kurongku , Archbishop of Port Moresby , and Francesco De Nittis , Pro-Nuncio in Papua New Guinea and Apostolic Delegate to the Solomon Islands .

He was named Archbishop of Honiara on December 3, 1984, and inducted into office on January 27 of the next year.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on June 22, 2016.
