Aegid von Waldkirch

Aegid von Waldkirch (* 1621 or 1622 in Rheinau as Johann Philipp von Waldkirch ; † January 28, 1667 in Muri ) was a Swiss Benedictine monk . From 1657 until his death he was abbot of the Muri monastery in the free offices (in today's canton of Aargau ).

His father Johann Caspar von Waldkirch was forester of St. Blasien and Obervogt of the Lordship of Blumegg , his mother was called Katharina Göldlin von Tiefenau. Aegid von Waldkirch studied theology in Muri and Rorschach . In 1637 he made his profession , in 1645 he was ordained a priest . He then worked as a teacher at the convent school . In the years 1652/53 he officiated as novice master , 1653/54 as pastor in Bünzen . Abbot Bonaventura Honegger appointed Waldkirch a notary in 1655 , he was also a professor of philosophy and theology. After Honegger's death, he was elected abbot in April 1657. On behalf of the Swiss Benedictine Congregation , he was responsible for the administration of the Pfäfers monastery , which was on the verge of ruin due to mismanagement.
