Against All Flags is an American adventure film from 1952.

action

The film is set in the year 1700. Trade with India is becoming increasingly important for England . Pirate interference is highly unwelcome. The pirates of Madagascar are particularly persistent in ambushing English merchant ships . An English navy officer, Brian Hawke, is smuggled into the pirates' offices as a spy to spy on and sabotage the fortifications in their port. After allegedly deserting from the navy, he wins the confidence of the pirates and becomes a member of the gang of the sinister Captain Roc Brasiliano. He also meets the fiery pirate Spitfire Stevens. Stevens falls in love with Hawke and becomes jealous when Hawke saves the beautiful Indian princess Patma and her governess Molvina MacGregor from being sold as slaves. Through Hawke, an English warship can conquer the pirate fortress, and as a reward for his deeds, Hawk successfully demands amnesty for Stevens in order to go into a future together with her.

Reviews

"Sea battles, duels and acrobatic top performances give the banal adventure story an attractive setting."

Remake

The film is considered to be the last noteworthy adventure film with Errol Flynn, who was already seriously alcoholic at the time . He follows the usual schemes of his earlier achievements, such as Under Jolly Roger and Robin Hood, King of the Vagabonds .

In 1967 a remake was made under the title The King's Pirate . Doug McClure took on the role of Errol Flynn here. Jill St. John played the role of Maureen O'Hara.
