Agostino Accorimboni

Agostino Accorimboni (born August 28, 1739 in Rome ; † August 13, 1818 there ) was an Italian opera composer , violinist and pianist.

Life

Agostino Accorimboni studied with Rinaldo di Capua . In 1757, when he was 18 years old, his oratorio Giuseppe riconosciuto based on a libretto by Pietro Metastasio was premiered in Rome. Between 1768 and 1786 he created thirteen operas, all of which , with the exception of La Nitteti, belong to the comic genre. The stylistic model for these works was probably Domenico Cimarosa . His opera buffa Il regno delle Amazzoni from 1783, which, after its world premiere at the Teatro Ducale in Parma, was also performed at the Teatro Zagnoni in Bologna, the Teatro della Pergola in Florence, the Teatro Sant'Agostino in Genoa and the Prague National Theater , had particular success . The introduction to this libretto was also set to music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (KV 434 = 424 b). From 1785 Accorimboni turned mainly to church music. During this time he was associated with the Church of Sant'Anna alle quatre Fontane in Rome. His cantata on the return of Pope Pius VII led to an invitation to the Württemberg court, which he presumably declined.

After his death, the estate was divided between his two sons, Francesco and Filippo. The former was an organist in Rome. His children Agostino and Teresa were successful pianists.
