Ahmed Cevad Pasha
Ahmed Cevad Pascha ( Turkish Kabaağaçlızade Ahmet Cevat Paşa ; * 1851 in Damascus , † August 9, 1900 in Istanbul ) was a general of the Ottoman army and statesman . He is also known as Şakir Paşa.
Ahmed Cevad Pascha - his full name: Kabaağaçlızade Ahmed Cevad Pascha - attended the cadet school in Kuleli on the Bosporus between 1860 and 1864 and the war school in Pangaltı near Pera between 1864 and 1869 . He was then appointed adjutant to Sultan Abdülaziz and wrote a history of the Turkish military during this period . In the Russo-Ottoman War in 1877 and 1878, Shumla was re-fortified under Cevad Pasha's leadership and he himself was appointed Chief of Staff of the troops there.
He participated in the peace congress as a member of the international commission for establishing the borders. In 1884 he became Brigadier General and Turkish Plenipotentiary in Montenegro , where he stayed for more than four years. Upon his return he was appointed military inspector. When the unrest broke out in Crete in 1889, he became chief of staff of the troops sent to suppress the uprising and interim governor . As such, he restored calm and was appointed Mushir in 1890 . In September 1891, after the overthrow of Kamil Pasha , the Sultan appointed him Grand Vizier . In June 1895 he received his departure.
Ahmed was appointed governor of Crete in August 1897 and governor of Damascus in November 1898 .
Ahmed Cevad Pasha died in Istanbul on August 9, 1900.
