Ahti Toivanen (born January 5, 1990 in Polvijärvi ) is a former Finnish biathlete . His older sister Laura Toivanen was also a biathlete.

Career

Ahti Toivanen starts Urheilijat for Kontiolahden . He made his international debut at the 2008 Biathlon Junior World Championships in Ruhpolding, where he was 70th in the individual and 50th in the sprint and 51st in the pursuit race. A year later he was in Canmore 21st in the sprint, 32nd in the pursuit and 16th with the Finnish relay. Toivanen ran his third Junior World Championships in 2010 in Torsby . In Germany he ran to places 50 in the individual, 18 in the sprint, 16 in the pursuit and eleven with the relay. He also took part in the junior races of the European Biathlon Championships 2011 in Otepää , where he was 12th in the individual, 33rd in the sprint, 20th in the pursuit and fourth in the mixed relay. The following year Toivanen took part in a Junior World Championship for the last time in Nové Město na Moravě and achieved very good results with places seven in the individual, four in the sprint, 13 in the pursuit and another four in the relay. In Ridnaun , the Finn took part in the junior races of the 2011 European Biathlon Championships. In the individual she was 17th, the mixed relay race did not finish the Finnish relay.

Toivanen made his debut with the men towards the end of the 2009/10 season in Kontiolahti in the Biathlon World Cup and finished 90th in a sprint. In the following season he started several times in the World Cup. The highlight of the season was the 2011 Biathlon World Championships in Khanty-Mansiysk , where the Finn finished 87th in the sprint and 19th in the relay race with Timo Antila , Paavo Puurunen and Jarkko Kauppinen . In the 2011/2012 World Cup season , Ahti Toivanen started regularly in the World Cup and was able to win points in the World Cup for the first time in the sprint in Nove Mesto as 37th.
