The 3rd World Saar campaign is an independent, general political organization that works across Germany and is based in Saarland .

Mission statement

According to their mission statement, the association advocates freedom , justice , self-determination and a future worth living for all people. It sees itself as independent and non-partisan, but not as impartial. Since it asserts its values mainly through political work, it sees itself as a political organization and thus denies the parties the monopoly on politics.

The 3rd World Saar campaign sees social justice as its central theme .

Content profile

Fairtrade

The 3rd World Saar campaign runs a world shop in the club's own house in Losheim am See , in which, according to its own statement, “fair prices are paid for good products”.

The Weltladen explicitly sees itself as a “political Weltladen”, which means that it would like to provide information about the economic connections that keep many countries in poverty. For example, reference is made to products that result from child labor and alternatives to them are shown.

What is important to the 3rd World Saar campaign is that the work is distributed fairly and that wages are paid that are sufficient for life and not just for survival.

Racism and discrimination

The group works for a society that sees people as human beings and does not judge them based on their appearance, their regional origin or their religion. That is why it also works against right-wing and left - wing anti-Semitism .

The action group advises refugees and sees a necessary fight against the causes of flight , not against refugees .

It refuses to reduce people only to their market-based performance and promotes more generous asylum laws in this context. In this context she is also an active member of the Saarland Refugee Council , with which she calls for a public commemoration of Samuel Yeboah ( Samuel Kofi Yeboah ) every five years, for example .

Aktion 3. Welt Saar believes it is a misunderstood tolerance to tolerate Islamist movements under the guise of religious freedom. She makes an explicit distinction between Islam and Islamism . She rejects the idea of an Islamic state of God propagated by Islamism, in which religion dictates and normalizes everyday life, because of its ideas of freedom and self-determination.

Globalization and ecology

The action group sees it as its task to draw attention to the dangers of the current privatization efforts. In her opinion, “energy and clean water must be available to everyone and must not be distributed according to purely market-economy requirements”. He is therefore committed to a decentralized energy supply that focuses on the use of renewable energy sources. He rejects nuclear energy, as well as genetically modified food and patents on seeds.

The foundation of the alliance “ERNA goes fair” (ERNA as short for “Food Security and Sustainability”), in which the Federal Association of German Dairy Farmers , the German Trade Union Confederation District West, the working group of rural agriculture and the NABU Landesverband Saarland are involved, also stands in this sense . The alliance is committed to fair agriculture worldwide.

Publications

The 3rd World Saar campaign issues publications on its various subject areas in irregular order.

In her publication Ten Little Niggers , she explains about racist prejudice in children's and young adult literature. In particular, reference is made to different trends in East and West German youth literature. Their circulation is 115,000 copies and was enclosed with the newspapers, the daily newspaper , Jungle World and the iz3w magazine . In spring 2014, a revised version was published, which was supplemented, among other things, by a contribution to the " N-word debate".

In the publication, which was last revised in autumn 2008 and has a total circulation of 120,000 copies, With Islamism Against Enlightenment , the 3rd World Saar campaign takes a stand against political Islam . It is pointed out that Islamist terrorism has no emancipatory potential and warns against false tolerance. The downright “irrepressible anti-Semitism ” and the fight against all individuality are also cited as evidence that Islamism is not a revolutionary freedom movement, but a reactionary phenomenon. At the same time, however, a clear dividing line must be drawn against all those "who take Islamism as a pretext to turn Europe into a fortress against refugees and indulge in the prevailing locational racism, as well as dismantle civil rights domestically and preach a national guiding culture". The weblog Politically Incorrect as well as the citizens 'movement pro Cologne and the citizens' movement Pax Europa are cited as negative examples of such groups, which are only ostensibly concerned about human rights . For them, "the fight against Islamism" only serves "as a mask of their xenophobia".

In the summer of 2009, the third edition of the leaflet, Streit ums Saatgut , was published in cooperation with the working group for rural agriculture . It describes the struggle of farmers to continue growing the Linda potato without the permission of the Europlant company . Based on this example, a link is made to the worldwide struggle of farmers for the right to continue to “reproduce” their crops (more on the concept of reproduction ). It is shown how the fight against so-called biopiracy unites farmers around the world in the fight against powerful seed companies .

In the publication Bye bye Multikulti - long live Multikulti! Action 3. Welt Saar criticizes an understanding of a multicultural society that contradicts the general validity of human rights. She considers human rights violations on the grounds of cultural diversity to be "false tolerance and failure to provide assistance". There was massive criticism of this pamphlet, for example, the 3rd World Saar campaign was accused of defaming Pro Asylum under the title Islamophobia from the left in the magazine analyze & criticism “Islam-Bashing” . Many reactions (from benevolent to critical) to the leaflet were published by Aktion 3. Welt Saar on its homepage.

On the occasion of its 30th anniversary, the 3rd World Saar campaign published the leaflet No project in the 3rd world - developing country Germany in winter 2012/2013 . It outlines the basic understanding of the 3rd World Saar campaign, which is general political and wants to “turn the screws on your own doorstep” in order to “change something worldwide”. Based on its common thread, the "equal access to the material and cultural resources of a society", the wide range of topics of the 3rd World Saar, from refugee work, fair trade, agricultural issues, criticism of Islamism, anti-Semitism to football (this is how the 3rd World Saar, for example a football club) presented and briefly commented on.

On the occasion of the International Green Week 2013, the 3rd World Saar campaign in cooperation with the Federal Association of German Dairy Farmers published the leaflet Milk Cheaper Than Water - Which Agriculture Do We Want? out. The publication shows how it can happen that the selling price for milk paid by dairies to farmers is below the production costs and which instruments could remedy this fact.

At the end of 2013 the leaflet Caution, the helpers are coming! NGOs between aid and aid business - in Palestine and elsewhere . In addition to criticism of the idea of development aid itself and of the worldview behind it, which is often “shaped by a certain view of 'those down there'”, the interests of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are examined. The 3rd World Saar campaign published the reactions, ranging from violent contradiction to approval, on its homepage.

Under the title Against Forgetting - Places of Nazi Terror and Resistance , the 3rd World Saar campaign published illustrated brochures between 2010 and 2015 on the history of the Saarland districts of Merzig-Wadern , Saarlouis and St. Wendel during the Nazi era . The aim of the publications is to "name places of National Socialist terror and resistance in the district, and to make them tangible as places where history can be learned". One focus is on the memory of local victims and resisters, who often only received very late or no appreciation at all. The brochures were included in the curriculum for community schools in Saarland.

Criticism and controversy

For several years now, the 3rd World Saar campaign has been criticizing the Bread instead of Firecrackers campaign , which annually calls for a portion of the amount of money otherwise invested in fireworks on New Year's Eve to be donated to development aid. Action 3. Welt Saar criticizes the fact that the call “only appeals to the guilty conscience” and that the connection between fireworks and poverty in the world is chosen completely arbitrarily: “You could just as easily call for it, no Christmas trees and books to buy or to skip indoor soccer tournaments ”. However, this does not go unchallenged: the organizers from the area of church aid organizations emphasize the great potential of this collection and point out that the appeal creates awareness of the problem of poverty in the world. Pros and cons of the appeal are compared here.

During the election campaign in Rhineland-Palatinate, the “Competence Center Islamism” of Aktion 3. Welt Saar criticized in a press release a leaflet from the (then) SPD-led state government, which dealt with the treatment of Muslim schoolchildren. This criticism was willingly accepted by the CDU side and the 3rd World Saar campaign was therefore accused by left-wing critics of “protecting the CDU”.

At the beginning of 2006 it became known that the discounter Lidl was adding fair trade products to its range that were certified with the fair trade seal of the non-profit association Transfair . The 3rd World Saar campaign has criticized Transfair's approach in a press release and several events, as Lidl was massively criticized at the time for its poor working conditions. She called it “two-faced, to stand up for social and trade union standards in the third world, but not to take the same thing so seriously on one's own doorstep”. The criticism of the 3rd World Saar campaign was taken up, among others, by the Latin America Information Center , which reported on this topic in its eponymous magazine.

organization structure

The political and financial responsibility of the 3rd World Saar is borne by the board , which according to the association's statutes is elected by the general assembly for two years and works on a voluntary basis.

The advisory board is at the side of the 3rd World Saar campaign and is supposed to support the board with its specialist knowledge.

Two youth officers serve as contact persons for young people in the association and are the first point of contact for interested young people inside and outside the association.
