Alan Tomkins

Alan Tomkins (* 1939 in Fulham , London ) is a British production designer and art director .

Life

Tomkins began his career in the film staff in 1961 as a technical draftsman on the set of the comedy film The Rebel . This was followed by a few other engagements in this function, whereby he initially remained in the credits without naming his name - as was the case with the James Bond films James Bond - 007, Dr. No and James Bond 007 - Greetings from Moscow and Stanley Kubricks 2001: A Space Odyssey . From the late 1960s he worked as an assistant to the art director and from 1973 as a production designer. During his career he worked on four films in the Bond series, as well as with directors such as Steven Spielberg , Oliver Stone and Richard Attenborough . He worked on three films for Blake Edwards , including Victor / Victoria .

1982 he was responsible for Irvin Kershners science fiction film The Empire Strikes Back with Norman Reynolds , Leslie Dilley , Harry Lange and Michael D. Ford for the Oscar in the category Best Art Direction nominated, but the award went this year to the Drama Tess .

Tomkins was comparatively little active in television. For his achievements, he was nominated three times for the Primetime Emmy between 1996 and 2002 , which he won in 1996 for the miniseries Gulliver's Travels .
