The Alberfeldkogel is 1707 m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Höllengebirge in Upper Austria , a little more than a kilometer west of the Feuerkogel . From the summit you have a good view of the lakes of the Salzkammergut and the glaciated Dachstein massif .
European cross
The summit cross , inaugurated on June 23, 2006, is known as the European cross . It was set up at the time of Austria's EU Council Presidency (January 1 to June 30, 2006). The 5 m high cross is made up of individual cubes. Each symbolizes an EU member state and is the same shape and size. In the cubes there are stones from the respective EU member state, which should point out the peculiarities of the country. The idea for the summit cross, the design and the implementation came about at the HTL Wels in cooperation with students and teachers. A scaled version of this summit cross is since 2007 in the Mountain Museum of Reinhold Messner in Sigmundskron Castle in Bolzano in South Tyrol issued.
Ascent and HTL Wels via ferrata
The Alberfeldkogel can be reached from the mountain station of the cable car to the Feuerkogel on comfortable hiking trails in around 50 minutes.
On May 20, 2011, the HTL Wels via ferrata was opened through the uppermost part of the northeastern edge of the Alberfeldkogel. The entrance can be reached from the hiking trail via a short descent; the path ends directly at the summit cross. The climbing reach a maximum of the level of difficulty C .
