Albert Popow ( Bulgarian Алберт Попов ; born August 8, 1997 in Sofia ) is a Bulgarian ski racer .

biography

In the World Cup Albert Popov travels since the 2014/15 season . He only takes part in giant slalom and slalom . He made his World Cup debut in October 2014 in the giant slalom in Sölden , where he did not qualify for the second round. He made his slalom debut in March 2015 in Kranjska Gora . Popow took part in the 2015 Alpine World Ski Championships in the USA . He started in the slalom and the giant slalom, but did not finish in both of them in the first round.

On November 17, 2015, Popow barely survived a car accident as a passenger in Sölden , while the driver of the car, his then trainer Drago Grubelnik , was killed. Popow himself injured his ankle and had to skip the entire following season.

At the 2017 Alpine World Ski Championships in Switzerland , Popow finished 30th in the giant slalom. At the 2018 Junior World Championship in Davos , he won the bronze medal in the giant slalom. On November 18, 2018, he won World Cup points for the first time by finishing 20th in the Levi slalom . On December 22nd, 2018 with start number 72, his next World Cup points followed in Madonna di Campiglio in 16th place. He achieved his first top ten classification on January 26th, 2019 at the slalom in Kitzbühel when he finished 9th with starting number 71. His next top ten result followed three days later in the Schladming night slalom with rank 6 (start number 46).
