Albert Trautmann
Albert Trautmann (born December 21, 1867 in Sögel , † September 12, 1920 in Werlte ) was a German pharmacist , local researcher and writer .
Family and work
His father was the pharmacist Robert Trautmann (1824–1885), his mother Gertrud Trautmann, née Cordes from Haren / Ems. Albert's great-grandfather, Carl Trautmann, married Concordia Charlotta Schiffel on January 17, 1769 in Zweibrücken / Palatinate. His father was the master carpenter and citizen of Zweibrücken, Peter Trautmann. At that time, Carl Trautmann was a sergeant in the Franco-German regiment Royal Deux-Ponts . This fact probably explains the wrong family tradition of the emigration of the progenitor from France, which can be found in almost all Trautmann biographies.
A son from this marriage, Philipp Heinrich Trautmann (1778 Jägersburg / Homburg - 1854 Sögel / Landkreis Emsland) received the license to build a pharmacy in Sögel in 1819 from the British-Hanoverian government and in 1834 permission to set up a branch pharmacy in Werlte. His wife was Clementine Dorothea Nordhoff, whom he married in Damme in 1820. After his death, his son Robert Trautmann (1824–1885) took over the pharmacies, and after his death the widow Gertrud Trautmann († 1908) managed the pharmacy in Sögel, while the eldest son, Albert's brother Paul (* 1856 Werlte), managed the pharmacy in Werlte.
Albert Trautmann took over this pharmacy in May 1894 and initially ran it alone until February 1895. After his marriage on February 5, Albert took over the Werlter pharmacy as a branch of Sögel, while his brother Paul took over the pharmacy in Sögel. In 1914 Albert Trautmann was granted the concession of a “full pharmacy” by the Upper President of the Province of Hanover. H. the branch relationship was dissolved and the Werlter pharmacy became an independent pharmacy.
After attending elementary school in Sögel and a private school in the Marstall Schloss Clemenswerth , Albert Trautmann attended grammar school in Meppen and studied pharmacy at the university in Münster .
The nature lover Albert Trautmann was an avid collector of old objects and oddities and in 1908 was the initiator and co-founder of the Hümmlinger Heimatbund .
Work and works
Albert Trautmann's local history and literary activities fell during his time as a pharmacist in Werlter. The literary activity began with occasional articles in the Osnabrücker Volkszeitung , the home papers of the Oldenburger Münsterland as well as numerous local papers. Albert Trautmann was also represented in numerous Werlter associations, he was chairman of the Werlter Beautification Association, the Warrior Association and the Post Association. During his student days, contrary to the strictest papal prohibition , the Catholic had become a member of a nationalist association that was strongly opposed to Catholics loyal to the Pope and who voted for the center . He was considered a feared fencer - throws testified to this phase. When the Emsland war clubs separated from the Kyffhäuserbund in 1908 and founded an independent Emsland warriors union, since the Kyffhäuserbund had carried out massive propaganda against the Catholic Center Party for the Reichstag election of 1907 and thus violated its party political neutrality, only the Werlter warrior association in the Hümmling district remained under the leadership of Trautmann Kyffhäuserbund.
As chairman of the Hümmlinger Heimatbund, Albert Trautmann was very committed to founding a local history museum to be built on the Theiken-Meer . An old farmhouse that he bought in Roscharden was supposed to provide the basis for this.
He established his reputation as a local writer with the Hümmlinger sketches , which initially appeared as sequels in various daily newspapers and were published in book form in 1910 by the Van Acken publishing house in Lingen . A new edition followed after his death in 1922. Six further editions followed by 1986, although the contents differed in part, as there were still a number of unpublished sketches in the estate. In addition, he had a comprehensive peasant novel in the works, which remained unfinished, as well as a story under the title Hünenkönig Surwold . He also published a number of mostly local history articles in the journal Lower Saxony , the organ of the homeland movement in the Prussian province of Hanover. The Albert Trautmann Society in Werlte, now part of the Werlter Heimatverein, initiated an expanded and scientifically revised new edition to mark the centenary of the publication of the Hümmlinger sketches in 2010, which for the first time includes Trautmann's entire literary estate, including unpublished material and in a remote location published works that were previously generally unknown. There are also contributions to the biography, the reception , his traces in Werlte and his monument. As an enclosure, a CD-ROM gives audio samples of four works, read by Hermann May.
Numerous publications about him, such as reprints of his sketches and the reworking of two of his works as humorous theater pieces, ensured lasting memories of Trautmann's work.
